Science of Mindfulness

Mindfulness research has increased 20-fold in the last 20 years (!) For a long time, scientists believed that brain is the only part of your body which does not generate any new cells. But it has now been proven that with regular practice, meditation causes the brain to produce new cells – called neurogenesis – and increase in grey matter! Research done by the University of California, Davis’ Shamatha Project has shown that meditation also helps protect DNA from damage by boosting telomerase activity, which is an enzyme that builds Telomeres – the protective caps at the end of each strand of DNA that protects our chromosomes.  These are just a few examples of the many ways in which science is proving that meditation gives you superpowers!!
